Super Visa (Parents & Grandparents)

Visit your children or grandchildren in Canada for up to 5 years per entry.

The Super Visa is a multiple-entry visa, valid up to 10 years, that lets parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens or permanent residents stay for up to 5 years per visit. It is the practical alternative to the lottery-based Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP).

Who it’s for

  • Parents and grandparents of citizens/PRs
  • Families wanting long, flexible visits without PR
  • Those not selected in the PGP lottery

Key facts

  • Up to 5 years of stay per entry
  • Multiple-entry, valid up to 10 years
  • Requires at least 1 year of private medical insurance
  • The host (child/grandchild) must meet a minimum income (LICO)

How it works

  1. Confirm host income: The child or grandchild in Canada shows they meet the minimum necessary income.
  2. Buy qualifying medical insurance: Obtain at least one year of Canadian medical insurance for the visitor.
  3. Submit the Super Visa application: File with the invitation letter, insurance proof, and income evidence.
  4. Complete medical & travel: Pass the immigration medical exam, then travel on the issued visa.

Eligibility highlights

  • Be the parent or grandparent of a Canadian citizen or PR
  • A signed invitation from the host meeting the income threshold
  • At least 1 year of valid Canadian medical insurance
  • Pass an immigration medical exam and be otherwise admissible
